Tennessee: Nashville

We stayed in another 24hr Walmart parking lot last night in Jackson TN after leaving Memphis. Chris drove as far as he could before getting sleepy.

We hit Starbucks of course in the morning for coffee and to hangout and eat our Walmart bagels. We parked our truck with our website facing (unintentionally) a group of locals outside having coffee together. As we passed by they greeted us kindly. I went back out because I forgot something and one man from their group asks how far we are into our journey. I was taken aback that someone actually took the time to look us up! I told them all our story and when Chris saw we were talking he came out from inside and continued. Everyone was very nice. They were sad to hear that our first impression of Tennessee was Memphis (haha). It wasn't that bad--there were police :) We definitely didn't feel comfortable staying there last night though.

Terry, thank you for taking the time to say hello and get to know us and our story. We will always remember meeting you and your friends!

After coffee, we headed out to Nashville. As soon as we got there and before we did anything else, we needed to get an oil change. The place we ended up going to was called Valvoline. It was really cool because we got to stay in the car and chat with the guy who was working on our car. Again--super nice people.

Felt so good to get fresh oil. We planned to check out the Opryland hotel per my mom's recommendation. Driving in and looking for parking we quickly realized that we would have to pay $26 for parking in order to walk in the hotel and take a few pictures. So we decided to keep going.

By this time we were starving. I had asked my friend Renee what places she recommended to go to and where we should eat because she used to live in Nashville. Thank you so much for sending us to The Pharmacy Renee because it was phenomenal.

I got the Farm Burger with goat cheese, an egg and sweet potato fries. Chris got a multi cheese burger and onion rings and a strawberry shake that was delicious. We recommend you stop here if you are around East Nashville!

After lunch, we went to go visit the replica of the parthenon and walk around the park.

Everything was beautiful and so green! The weather was nice and also very windy.

We tried to make it in time to walk through the Country Music Hall of Fame but we were too late. They close at 5 and it was already 4:30pm. I was pretty bummed but we made plans to go back the next morning.

We stopped to get coffee while we were deciding where we were going to stay that night. We were told that Keith Uban frequented Bongo Java so we thought hey let's try it :)

Everything in us wanted to get a hotel. However, our budget only allowed for one $60 hotel every other week. We even looked in to Airbnb's! While at the coffee shop we read that a storm was about to hit the south pretty hard. Chris and I weren't really sure if it was smart to stay the night there if the storm was just going to get worse. We decided that it was better to be safe than sorry.

I'm really bummed we had to leave Nashville without really experiencing it. We covered the truck with the rain cover got coffee and got on the road and got Taco Bell for dinner. Stay tuned to see how crazy the storm got when we drove out of town!
